Semi-Annual Music in Review

So I see a lot of my favorite music blogs posting about their favorite albums thus far in the year, and I thought I would make one too. Not necessarily released in 2008, but as long as the artist is new to me, it counts:

And you all better read/listen! I worked very hard and it took me FOREVER to pull all the links together.

1. Laura Marling
For only 15/16 years old her songwriting is sharp and witty. And she's English. And she's super cute. So what's not to like?
Ghosts

2. Diane Cluck
She states that she's apart of the anti-folk movement, not sure what that is, but she sure sounds like folk. Go figure.
Easy to Be Around

3. Klima
There is something undefinable about her ambiance and vocals. LOVE her.
The City

4. Alina Simone
She is a minimalist and lo-fi - but you wouldn't have known that if I didn't tell you. Her music makes a presence with so little.

5. Sharon Van Etten
Lo-Fi Folk. Adorable Vocals. Adorable woman.

6. Wildbirds & Peacedrums
Crazy beats and backdrop music, crazy vocals. Crazy people. Fantastic music.
Doubt/Hope
I Can't Tell In His Eyes

7. White Hinterland
I heard her solo works, and they weren't nearly as good as this side project. It's jazzy and the vocals sound great with this music.
Dreaming of the Plum Trees

8. Ben Sollee
I first heard his cover of "A Change is Gonna Come" only 2 weeks ago, and was so taken with it. I have the rest of the album and it his fantastic - love the cello highlights. He is going places.
A Change is Gonna Come
How to see the Sun Rise

9. Timber Timbre
It's rare that I like bands with guy vocals, or solo guys. I'm very partial to women musicians, but I really love Timber Timbre. And the name is fantastic. Such catchy, great music.

10. Wallis Bird
Her songs are very melodic and acoustic based and her vocals are very broad. Quite a few highlights on her debut.

11. Tina Dico
I really like her throaty vocals. And she's cute.

12. Uh Huh Her
Not my normal taste, but I love their songs. I think they're really fantastic. And it's Leisha Hailey! What's not to love?
Not A Love Song

13. Adele
Gah. I hate how Grey's Anatomy practically stole her. I'm always bitter about instant fame through Greys or iTunes/Apple. I think it KILLS the the (potential) quality of a fan. I mean, good for them, but I'm always resentful.
Best for Last

14. Terra Naomi
Heard about her through last.fm radio. She's bitter and cynical - and I love it.
Not Sorry

All Songs Considered Just songs I enjoy but am not entirely into the artist:
1. Jane Vain and the Dark Matter - C'mon Baby Say Bang Bang
2. Forest City Lovers - Don't Go
3. Allison Crowe - Skeletons and Spirits
4. Nicole Atkins - Maybe Tonight
5. The Accidental - Knock Knock
6. Lisa Knapp - There U R
7. American Analog Set - Hard to Find
8. Son Lux - Break
9. Santogold - I'm A Lady
